MANDALA AIRLINES FLIGHT 091

The Airline:
Mandala Airlines was established and started operations in 1969. It is 90% owned by Yayasan Dharma Putra Kostrad with the remaining 10% shared by Dharma, Kencana, Sakti and Nusamba.

The Aircraft:
Along with the 737-100, the 737-200 was part of the first generation production models of the world’s most successful jet airliner family, Boeing's 737 twinjet. They were first ordered in 1965 and delivered in December of 1967. The 737-200 had its first flight on August 8 1967 and remained in production until 1988, after 1114 had been built. The launch customer of the 737-200 was United Airlines.

Background and History of the Flight:
Flight 091 departed at 10:04 a.m. from Medan-Polonia Airport for the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, carrying 112 passengers and five crew on the flight.

Service and Maintenance History of the Aircraft:
The plane was built in 1981 and underwent comprehensive maintenance in June of 2005.

The Flight Crew:
No information about the identity of the flight crew has been released.

The Passengers and Crew:
Those killed included the North Sumatra governor, Teuku Rizal Nurdin, and his predecessor, Raja Inal Siregar, who were both on board.
